MLB Trade Rumors: Yusei Kikuchi Headed to Toronto Blue Jays

Japanese Lefty to Join Blue Jays After Astros Release

Kikuchi Expected to Boost Blue Jays' Rotation

The Toronto Blue Jays have reportedly acquired left-handed pitcher Yusei Kikuchi from the Houston Astros, according to multiple media outlets. The move comes after the Astros designated Kikuchi for assignment on Wednesday.

Kikuchi, 31, signed a three-year, $36 million contract with the Astros in February 2023, but struggled during his time in Houston. In 12 starts, he posted a disappointing 5.19 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 60.2 innings pitched.

The Blue Jays are hoping that a change of scenery will help Kikuchi regain his form. The Japanese lefty has previously had success in the Major Leagues, including posting a 4.97 ERA in 32 starts for the Seattle Mariners in 2022.

Kikuchi's addition gives the Blue Jays a much-needed boost in their starting rotation. The team has been searching for a reliable fifth starter behind Kevin Gausman, Chris Bassitt, José Berríos, and Hyun Jin Ryu.

In conclusion, the trade of Yusei Kikuchi to the Toronto Blue Jays is a low-risk, high-reward move for the Canadian franchise. If Kikuchi can regain his previous form, he could become a valuable addition to the Blue Jays' rotation and help them contend in the AL East.
