Imane Khelif Wins Olympic Boxing Bout

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif forced her Italian opponent Angela Carini to surrender in the first round of a preliminary welterweight 66kg bout.

Khelif, who grew up in a rural village in Tiaret Province in northwestern Algeria, originally played football before switching to boxing in her early years.

On Thursday, Khelif dominated the match from the start, landing several punches that forced Carini to take a standing eight count. After the count, Carini continued to take punishment and eventually quit the fight.

Khelif's victory is a major upset, as Carini was the higher-ranked boxer. However, Khelif's performance was impressive, and she showed that she is a boxer to watch in the upcoming rounds of the tournament.
